I am fascinated with insects. They are a lively, colorful bunch of critters with interesting social (or anti-social) orders and routines. There is also a great amount of myth and legend surrounding many insects. These myths and my personal interaction with butterflies, bees, beetles, cicadas, (and others) influence my work.

My intent is to draw together fragments of story, archetype, and metaphor to create an emotive or visceral response in the viewer. I want to stir memory, encourage discovery, interaction, and sometimes play.

I am (mostly) a self-taught artist; my formal training is in professional writing. Poetry and story forms greatly influence my visual expression. After working for a decade as a journalist and poet, language and written communication are emerging as a new element in my work.
